Gavin and Stacey – Coming soon to BBC Three

March 24th, 2007

Stacey is from Barry, in Cardiff, and Gavin is from Essex. But the difference in backgrounds and culture doesn’t hinder their romance, which flourishes when they finally meet for the first time after hitting it off during numerous flirtatious work calls.

Stacey’s guardian-uncle, Bryn, has pledged to look out for his niece – when not obsessing over his faulty satellite navigation system – whilst Gavin is doted on by his sometimes emotionally volatile mother, Pam, who only wants the best for her “little prince”.300gavin_stacey.jpg

On the occasionally rocky route to Gavin and Stacey’s wedding, the two very different sets of families and friends must learn to get along together. The couple’s best friends, the forthright Nessa and best man Smithy, get along very, very well but, unfortunately, only when they’re drunk.

Gavin is played by Mathew Horne (Catherine Tate, Teachers), Stacey by Joanna Page (Gideon’s Daughter, Love Actually), Bryn by Rob Brydon, Pam by Alison Steadman, Nessa by Ruth Jones and Smithy by James Corden.

Sounds completely shit, but can’t be as bad as that crap thats on the telly now… Roman’s empire. Pure shit.

  2. Jonny says:

Wow, you should work as a critic Mat! Such wonderful insight into the show. “Sounds completely shit” i mean, with such wonderful writing as that maybe you should write a comedy show. Or maybe you have and you’ve never been picked up by a network like these shows. You sad man. Oh and i just watched them online and thought it was great.

Television in the summer is poor. However, this is an exception. Really well written, great characters and very funny. Does anybody know if there is to be a second series?

Loving the show – I was actually shocked when I got told about it as I am from Barry and my boyfirend is from Billericay woudl you believe. We both find it very amusing.

I live in London now so it is a good way to see my home town on tv too!

It’s as if they wrote our story, i was a young girl from Barry,South Wales with a widowed mother. Met my boyfriend at the barry island fairground, he was from england. We were married within 3 months
His family was much more better off than us,and thought we were a bit common. and my best friend was a big girl ”Who told it like it was” who slept with most of his mates, just to keep me company( she was the best).
All his family traveled to Barry for the wedding. That was 25 yeas ago, and were still happily married. I feel like i should be owed some royalties lol x

  13. Aisling says:

  16. anna says:

does anybody know what the name of the song is thats played on the gavin and stacey bbc three advert? its been buging me for ages now thank you

  17. Robin's Nest says:

Check this out for cracking dialogue:
“I’m by Nothing to Declare. Have we got anything to declare?”
“Don’t think so. Are you sure you don’t wanna get Nessa any fags?”
    “No. She’s given up”
    “What? Since when?”
“Oh I don’t know! Anyway I got her a Greek flag for her collection, that’s what she wanted”

????? Is this funny? Is this relevant to the story? Is this insightful? Maybe I’m missing something.

Then Alison Steadman confirms that all working class people think fish is really magical and strange, cue Razorlight, and we’re off.

What a lame and utterly fuckbrained disgrace to the licence fee. Two Pints of Lager for Guardian readers who like to slag off Two Pints of Lager.

  18. Rob Wearbe says:
